If you are missing one or more teeth, you have a variety of options to restore your smile. Implants have become very popular over the years, but are they right for you?
You may be a good candidate for dental implants if your gums are in good shape and you have enough jawbone to support the them. If your jaws have stopped growing, and you have a commitment to taking care of your teeth and gums, implants may be a good choice to replace missing teeth.
However, implants may no be a good idea for everyone. If you are pregnant, you may want to consider other options. If you are a heavy tobacco user, you may not be a good candidate since tobacco can slow the healing process. If you use alcohol or recreational drugs, and are not committed to following the dentist’s instructions, or you will not commit to a healthy oral health regimen, the dentist may suggest a different replacement procedure. If you grind your teeth, or have a tendency to clench them when stressed, implants may not be for you.
Other factors include hemophilia, immune disorders, steroids, immunosuppressants and uncontrolled diabetes.
